Sudden death of young Vienna tenor

Friends have reported the death of Leonardo Navarro, a member of the Vienna State Opera ensemble since 2017.

No cause is yet known. Leo was 38.

A Chilean who sang his first roles in at the Teatro Regional del Maule, he sang two engagements in Washington before moving to Vienna. Of his life there he said: ‘As a musician, it’s fantastic. One feels that here one absorbs all the wisdom and all the possible culture related to music , singing and art. From that point of view, it’s super nourishing and super good to live here.’

His colleague Jongmin Park writes: ‘Dear my friend Leonardo. I’m so sad to hear this sad news. How many years we worked together, sang together, laughed together, and talked together….. You are leaving us such a young age. It was a great pleasure to sing with you. We will always remember you in our heart.’
