Paris stages Beethoven’s 9th without an orchestra

The Salle Gaveau is putting on Liszt’s version of the choral symphony on May 14, accompanied by two pianists. We’re tempted.

The pianists are Hélène Mercier and Louis Lortie. The chorus of the Orchestre de Paris and the Choeur Bergamasque will do the heavy llifting. nThe vocal soloists are Claire de Monteil, Delphine Haidan, Inho Jeong and Jihoon Park. Musical direction is in the hands of Pierre-Louis de Laporte.
