Young Brit’s Mozart musical will premiere in Austria

Young Brit’s Mozart musical will premiere in Austria

Charli Eglington, who is 25 tomorrow, has composed a musical on the after-life of Mozart – how his sister Nannerl and his widow Constanze buried their personal jelousies to craft a posthumous image that protected his posterity.

Saving Mozart will receive its world premiere at the Gmunden Festival in April.

Charli, who has just made her first television appearance in Austria, has already released a concept album.

She says: ‘To find the authentic ‘voice’ of Mozart, I read all the Mozart family letters from the Mozarteum Foundation’s archives – and was amazed at how contemporary they were. Their celebrations, their quarrels, Leopold as a typical ‘lion father’ and his stubborn, rebellious son who doesn’t obey him. This was a completely normal family, and even though it was 200 years ago, families don’t change.’
