A notice has been posted by the Charlotte Symphony, mourning the passing of its principal timpanist, Jacob Lipham.
Jacob was 28. No cause has been made public.
Notice follows:
With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jacob Lipham, our Principal Timpanist since 2020. Jacob was a gifted musician, a devoted mentor to our Youth Orchestra students, and a deeply kind and generous spirit who went out of his way to lift others up.
In tribute to his legacy, Jacob’s family has donated his marimba — a cherished instrument through which he discovered his musical voice — to the CSO Youth Orchestras. His presence touched so many, and his music and memory will continue to inspire.
