A notice has been posted by the Charlotte Symphony, mourning the passing of its principal timpanist, Jacob Lipham.
Jacob was 28. No cause has been made public.

With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jacob Lipham, our Principal Timpanist since 2020. Jacob was a gifted musician, a devoted mentor to our Youth Orchestra students, and a deeply kind and generous spirit who went out of his way to lift others up.
In tribute to his legacy, Jacob’s family has donated his marimba — a cherished instrument through which he discovered his musical voice — to the CSO Youth Orchestras. His presence touched so many, and his music and memory will continue to inspire.
