A Boston opera wins top prize at Cannes

John Aylward’s opera film “Oblivion” has won the Best Musical Film award at Cannes World Film Festival. Aylward, a Boston composer and librettist, had intended his work for the live stage. But Covid intervened and he took up a film adaptation.

The opera is scored for four voices with viola, cello, double bass, electric guitar, and electronics.
