A new partnership between Burgh House, in Hampstead, and Chamber Studio will create a residency programme for emerging chamber ensembles at Burgh House. Selected string quartets and trios will take part in a series of residencies at Burgh House, where they will reunite with leading chamber musicians for masterclasses before sharing the results of their work with audiences in intimate evening performances.
Among the ensembles taking part in the inaugural residency programme are Trio Musae, Talland Quartet and Quartet Concrète – three of the UK’s most exciting emerging chamber ensembles. The first season will comprise three events taking place in October, December and February. Each residency will feature a free daytime masterclass followed by a ticketed evening recital in Burgh House’s historic Music Room, offering audiences a rare opportunity to witness the creative process behind chamber music performance before experiencing the finished interpretation in concert.
The residency programme is funded by The Cosman Keller Art & Music Trust and builds on Chamber Studio’s acclaimed Hans Keller Forum, an intensive mentoring programme for outstanding chamber ensembles who are at UK conservatoires.
Alongside the residencies, Burgh House will present a complementary exhibition celebrating the work of Milein Cosman. One of Britain’s most fascinating twentieth-century artists, Cosman was renowned for her expressive depictions of musicians, writers and artists, including Benjamin Britten, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Featuring important recent acquisitions from The Cosman Keller Art & Music Trust—many on public display at Burgh House for the first time—the exhibition will be accompanied by curator-led talks.
