Thailand death of Swiss mezzo, 59

Multiple reports are circulating of the sudden death of Franca Courtin in the Thai beach resort of Hua Hin, where she was teaching.

No further details are presently available.

The Romanian-born soprano Ana Maria Labin writes: ‘We all have that extraordinary person that crosses one’s path and has that impact that would change your life forever…As a musician, singer, woman and human being I wouldn’t have been who I am today without Franca Courtin. She was my very first singing teacher … Ever since she remained my mentor, spiritual animal and friend. I miss you so much!! Will see you later with the angels! Love to her family and friends…may you rest in peace.’
