French downplay July 14 for Olympic opening

Paris has announced its annual July 14 concert and it’s much lower key than usual.

The event is being moved from its normal venue beside the Eiffel Tower to the  the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville.

And the lineup, with lots of the usual names, lacks a single defining star, as in years gone by:

Fatma Saïd (tbc), soprano
Nadine Sierra, soprano
Adèle Charvet, mezzo-soprano
Pene Pati, tenor
Renaud Capuçon, violin
Daniel Lozakovich , violin
Gauthier Capuçon, cello
Khatia Buniatishvili, piano
Lang Lang, piano
Matthieu Chedid, guitar
Thibaut Cauvin, guitar
Orchestre National de France
Radio France Choir – Lionel Sow, choirmaster
Radio France Choir – Sofi Jeannin, choirmaster
Cristian Măcelaru, conductor
