UK orchestra bass dies ‘in unexpected circumstances’

UK orchestra bass dies ‘in unexpected circumstances’

The death has been made known of Mat Heighway, a highly popular member of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra and Jersey Symphony Orchestra, among other ensembles. Mat was 46.

Rosie Knighton has posted on Fb: ‘Terry Heighway and I are devastated to confirm the passing of Mat, who left us suddenly on Wednesday. He was on his way to do what he loved best, play music with friends. One of the kindest hearted, funny, talented people you could ever meet, I know he will be very much missed by us all. News of his funeral or wake will be posted here when arrangements have been made. Messages can be sent to me by direct message and I can send an address for cards by that route too. With love to all who are sharing our terrible sadness.’

The Time Stealers have posted: ‘It’s with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mat Heighway, our bass guitar and double bass player.
Mat was an extraordinarily talented musician who added so much to our sound in The Time Stealers. He had great personality and wild sense of humour, on and off stage.
Our thoughts go out to Mat’s family and friends.
We will never be the same without you Mat.’
