When the Berlin Philharmonic visit Frankfurt, they drop into the bank.
After yesterday’s limelight concert at the Alte Oper, en route to a US tour, the orchestra renewed its deals with Deutsche Bank as lead sponsor for another five years.
The deal has been running for 35 years since 1990 – just after the Berlin Wall fell and Claudio Abbado succeeded Karajan as chief conductor.
It was funding from DB that allowed the orchestra to develop its powerful streaming platform, the Digital Concert Hall, with more than 600 concerts presently online. The bank also funds childrens’ events.
Maestros move on. Banks stick around. Neither talks much about money.
