Lawyer steps in to run opera house

The state theatre in Augsburg was in trouble when its experienced intendant Florian Stiehler resigned this year.

What to do in a crisis? They called in a lawyer, Ulrike Kuhrdt.

She took charge so effectively that they have confirmed her in the job, starting on New Year’s Day.

Well, not quite. Kuhrdt, 51, had previously worked in the theatre as head of HR.
