Death of a three-style composer

Death of a three-style composer

We have learned belatedly of the death in October of the influential Swedish composer Jan W. Morthenson. He was 84.

Morthenson developed three periods and styles – non-figurative music, meta-music and existentialist music. The first is self-explkanatory, the second is music about music and the third is music about nothing at all. Or so he said. More or less.

He was active in the 1970s in the International Society for Contemporary Music (ICSM). In musical forums he was described as ‘combative’.
