He changed opera in every corner of the country

He changed opera in every corner of the country

In tonight’s Lebrecht Interview on BBC  Radio 3, I talk to David Pountney about a career that has involved pivotal roles as director of productions at Scottish Opera and English National Opera, and general director of Welsh National Opera. Not to mention his vital involvements in Wexford Opera in Ireland, and the burgeoning countryhouse scene.

Has anyone done more for opera in the UK?

David has some bitter things to say about the progressive collapse of English and Welsh opera companies. Let’s see if his piercing comments made it past the BBC  lawyers.

Tonight at 21.15. Listen here.

Tomorrow, it’s Mirga.
