The composer who walked out on Ricordi

The iconic opera publisher lacks the cachet it acquired in the Verdi-Puccini era, but it’s a still a force to be reckoned with. For the past 18 years it has been part of the Universal Music Group empire.

So it is with mild surprise that we learn today that the British composer Philip Venables has left Ricordi to be represented worldwide by OWL Artist Management, a Berlin-based boutique.

Venables’ next opera We Are The Lucky Ones is due to premiere on March 14 at Dutch National Opera.
