Classical PRs take over page 3

The third page of the Times this morning is occupied by two stories that are not news.

The first concerns a virtual reality device that is being pioneered by the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, hardly one of the world’s regular trail-blazers.

The second is a plan by the pianist Igor Levit to play Satie’s Vexations 840 times and all by himself, something no sane person has done before.

Both stories are puffed-up gimmicks.

It’s a shame this is the only way the heat-seeking Levit can claim public attention.
