Friedrich Gulda: 25 years gone

Friedrich Gulda: 25 years gone

The inimitable Austrian pianist Friedrich Gulda died on January 27, 2000 in the village of Steinbach am Attersee, where Mahler composed his second and third symphonies.

Gulda’s compositions were mostly jazz.

His stage personality was compelling, unpredictable, unforgettable. Of all post-War Austrian pianists, he stands out as the one most others would have liked to be. He is remembered everywhere with a wistful smile.
