Just in: Kirill Petrenko pulls out of Berlin Biennale

Just in: Kirill Petrenko pulls out of Berlin Biennale

From the Berlin Phil:

It is with great regret that Kirill Petrenko also has to cancel the concerts from 13 to 15 February and the family concert on 16 February. On strict medical advice, he has to take a 3-week break for further treatment.

The Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko are very grateful to David Robertson for agreeing to conduct the concerts with an unchanged programme at short notice.

David Robertson made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2002 and regularly makes guest appearances with top orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, LA Phil, Seoul Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden.

We wish Kirill Petrenko well in what is clearly a stressful time. Huge credit to David Robertson that he has not dropped a tough world premiere from the opening concert:

Edgard Varèse Arcana for large orchestra (revised version from 1960)
Miroslav Srnka Superorganisms, commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris (German premiere)
Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 in F major op. 68 “Pastoral”
