A Star Wars orchestra star has died at 93

The brilliant trombonist Denis Wick, a star in the London Symphony Orchestra’s swagger brass section, died yesterday at the age of 93, his family has reported.

Denis joined the LSO as principal trombone in 1957 and held the seat for 31 years. In John Williams’ Star Wars recordings he vied with principal trumpet Maurice Murphy as to which made the most shining noise.

Away from the LSO, he patented mouthpieces, mutes and others accessories that are manufactured by his family firm and used by brass players in orchestras all over the world.
