Breaking: Another Michigan sex scandal

Breaking: Another Michigan sex scandal

The University of Michigan is seeking the dismissal of Associate Professor Scott Piper, former chair of the Music, Theatre & Dance Department, following a student’s allegations of sexual harrassment.

Piper had an international career as a tenor before engaging with academia. Slippedisc reported the charges against him four months ago.

In the latest reported development, ‘Dean David Gier has determined that the college will move forward with a recommendation for dismissal of Professor Scott Piper from their tenured faculty position at the University of Michigan, pursuant to Regents’ Bylaw 5.09.’

Michigan has a history of misdemeanours:

It ignored years of sexual abuse by violin professor Stephen Shipps.

It dithered over claims of sexual assault by countertenor David Daniels.

It unfairly banned composer Bright Sheng for showing Laurence Olivier’s blackface Otello.

And more.
