Bloodbath at New York’s WQXR

The perennially failing Public Radio station has slashed 21 jobs, amounting to 7.7% of the workforce.

Among those sacked, we hear, is the atation’s well-connected chief content officer Ed Yim (pic), former CEO of the American Composers Orchestra. His job was one that ‘helps WQXR reach a broader, more inclusive audience, drives digital innovation, bolsters the station’s role in New York City’s arts and culture ecosystem, and increases WQXR’s relevance and service to the city’s communities’. So much for the melting-pot agenda.

Also on the line is the station’s flagship New Sounds show, presented by the iconic John Schaefer. John says he’ll go if the show is cancelled. So much for renewal and innovation. Here’s the show’s take on it:
