Formative US conductor dies, 85

The conductor Daniel Lipton, founder of Opera Bogotá in Colombia and opera Ontario in Canada, has died in reitrement in Tampa, Florida.

Born in Paris to refugee parents, Lipton was General Music Director in Dessau, eastern Germany, in the 1990s.

In 2018, he faced an arrest warrant in Canada over an historic allegation of sexual assault by a woman then in her 70s. No charges were ultimately brought and he lived out a peaceful retirement with his children in Florida.
