Martha was playing for hostage’s grandmother

Before Martha Argerich gave her heart-stopping Bach encore at the Israel Philharmonic this week, conductor Lahav Shani announced that she was playing for the pianist Alon Ohel, who has been held captive and wounded in Gaza since the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023.

Shani added that Alon’s grandmother was present in the hall.
