Finns and scales: Baton bumps at Sibelius Academy

Finns and scales: Baton bumps at Sibelius Academy

Veda Siren reports in the Sanomat that Sakari Oramo has resigned as professor, saying: ‘The Sibelius Academy has been lost, it has grown too big and multidisciplinary, and the content does not seem to matter at all.’

His post will be taken by Susanna Mälkki, who says she is ‘extremely inspired’ by the task ahead. She adds: ‘It is true that the Sibelius Academy is large, but there is no reason to imagine that it has been ‘lost’ in any way.’

Meanwhile, Hannu Lintu says he is leaving Finnish National Opera because it has not enough work next season.
