Oregon appoints swift-change UK chief

The Eugene Symphony has named Alex Prior as its music director, starting in October.

Prior, 32, previously had one term as music director in Edmonton, Canada, and another in Erfurt, Germany.

He said: ‘I was aware of the Eugene Symphony even as a kid in the UK. I think that speaks for itself. This orchestra really has a reputation that goes way beyond the local community. Wonderfully. Though it serves the local community. It is an orchestra with renown. And I think that’s something for Eugene to be proud of actually.’

Eugene Symphony has been without a music director since Francesco Lecce-Chong left in May 2023.
