Opera North has advertised places on its less than coveted training programme:
Applications are now open for next year’s Female and Non-Binary Conductor Traineeship. Spread the word!
This intensive annual 10-week scheme was launched in recognition of the fact that talented female and non-binary conductors are less likely to find a way into the industry.
“The one-to-one sessions were the most exciting because they’re an opportunity to analyse your conducting and to get some really helpful tips” — Michal Oren, Female Conductor Trainee 2025.
If this scheme is within the law, perhaps someone could explain why a similar scheme that excluded women would be discriminatory.
And whether a young male conductor who claims overnight to identify as female would automatically qualify.
