The German Music Information Center has published a survey showing that 16.3 million people aged six and ove regularly play music, around 21 percent of the population.
What is striking is that the figure is two million higher than at the last survey in 2020, suggesting that many took up playing an instrument during the flatline months of Covid, either out of boredom or because live performance was shut down.
