Cardiff musicians agree to lose 10 jobs

The BBC is reporting that members of the Welsh National Opera orchestra have accepted a pay deal after a year of protests. The price is the loss of 10 positions, which are curretnyl vacant.

WNO had sought to make the orchestra part-time and inflict a 15 percent pay cut on those who remained.

Details of the new pay deal have not been disclosed. The vote was 97% in favour.

The conflict was triggered by extreme Arts Council cuts to WNO’s subsidy.
