The Akademie der Künste has announced the death of Erhard Grosskopf, a prolific composer who described himself as ‘an architect who builds a house for music’. In 1971 he created the first spatial composition Hörmusik for the Berlin Philharmonic. Most recently in 2019 he produced RaumKlangSkulptur for three string quartets.
He utilizes so-called sound processes: layers of differing lengths that are looped and stacked according to mathematical principles, resulting in circling harmonic constellations that come to an end only when their end points coincide
