Prospective students at the Newark School of Violin Making have been told that the present year’s intake will be the last.
There will be no new intake to Musical Instrument Crafts for the next two years until the current first year have graduated. The disciplines include violin, piano, guitar and woodwind making.
This looks like shutdown for the school and the loss of traditional crafts for the whole countrt. It is believed the decision emanates from Lincoln College and the University of Hull, which validates its degress. We are awaiting clarification.
The school was opened in September 1972 in its present building by Yehudi Menuhin. It has been a major centre for instrumental crafts ever since.
