Trump fires copyright chief

Trump fires copyright chief

The head of the U.S. Copyright Office, Shira Perlmutter, has been abruptly dismissed by an email from the White House.

It read: ‘Your position as the Register of Copyrights and Director at the U.S. Copyright Office is terminated effective immediately.’

Perlmutter was appointed five years ago by Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, who was fired by Trump last week.

The copyright official had been collecting information for a report on AI, a project which generated considerable nervousness among the Trump-supporting moguls of social media.
