Death of famed tenor, 98

Death of famed tenor, 98

Italian media have reported the death today in Mariano Comense of the great Peruvian tenor Luigi Alva.

Arriving in Milan in 1953 after serving in the Preuvian navy, Luis Ernesto Alva y Talledo trained at La Scala and was soon a first choice in Mozart roles, light in weight but richly characterised. Claudio Abbado was a particular admirer. Alva sang more than a hundred times at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, between 1964 and 1975.
