Philadelphia principal dies, aged 100

We have been informed of the death of Bernard Garfield, principal bassoon for 43 years of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

He passed away at home on April 29, 2025 in Haddonfield, NJ.

After freelancing in New York, in 1957 Bernie was selected by Eugene Ormandy, without audition, to be principal bassoonist.
