Eminent oboist, 77

Eminent oboist, 77

The death has been made known of the international oboist Harry Wayne Sargous.

Originally from Cleveland Heights, Harry was principal oboe of the Toronto Symphony under music directors Karel Ancerl and Andrew Davis from 1971 to 1982. He went on to guest with leading orchestras in Europe, working intensely with Pierre Boulez at IRCAM in Paris on the concert of an ‘electronic’ or digital oboe.

He accepted a professorship in 1982 at the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor and founded the Michigan Chamber Players, which toured widely.
