St Petersburg sacks iconic concert presenter

St Petersburg sacks iconic concert presenter

The authoritative tones of Elena Efimova will not be heard again announcing artist names and titles of works at concerts in the small hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. She has been sacked after 49 years due to a single listener’s complaint.

Elena went on social media to explain:

‘Well, that’s it… They responded to a complaint about me from one “kind” listener. I’ll finish this season, but they won’t renew the contract for the next season… Thanks to my dear musicians and kind listeners. I’ll try to survive.’

An admirer writes: ‘She does not use a microphone – her voice, diction and an impeccable theater school quite enough – prevents fans from using their phones during the concert and for St. Petersburg musicians, without a doubt, is a living embodiment of a unique tradition of communication with the public.’
