Carmen is stopped due to smoking on stage

The Vienna State Opera’s performance of Jacques Bizet’s Carmen was stopped on Tuesday after health and safety officials became concerned at the sight of smoke rising on stage.

An opera official later confirmed that there had been ‘heavy smoke development’ from one of the cars on stage. The cause was swiftly found to be faulty insulation in a cable from the car battery to one of the car headlights (Not a Tesla, we hope).

A fire alarm was sounded, the house was evacuated and the performance was resumed after a short break.

Did no-one point out that Carmen is set in a cigarette factory?
