During the course of the Competition we have pointed out the universal media indifference to its proceedings.
Put another way, the Competition failed to organise proper media coverage, so none of the right people turned up.
Today, two days after the result was announced, the New York Times has yet to publish a report on the Van Cliburn. It may still do so, but the impression given up to now is that the competition has fallen so low on the media slush pile as to be practically invisible.
That’s sad. It needs urgent attention or the institution will disintegrate.
