The death has been made known of José de Felipe, founder and conductor of important elements in Madrid’s concert life. Educated in Moscow, where his parent were exiled during the Franco regime, founded the Children’s Choir of the Soviet RTV.
Back on home turf, he conducted the National Choir of Spain and later the Anthology of the Zarzuela of Jose Tamayo, the Santo Thomas Aquinas Choir, the Virgin of Mirasierra Choir and the School of the Royal Monastery of Escorial.
He founded the Madrid Community Children’s Choir and the Polytechnic University Choir of Madrid. He was professor of choral direction at the Padre Antonio Soler Conservatory of the Community of Madrid.
He liked to say: ‘A choir is the shortest and directest road to an understanding of music’.
