What you have to say when performing for Putin

What you have to say when performing for Putin
Ilia Papoian, who came third at the last Tchaikovsky Competition, is happy to speak truth to power when he gets the chance:

“It is an enormous honor for me to perform before the president in the restored conservatory, in the Glazunov Hall, that one might say I opened today, in musical terms, with Rachmaninoff’s fifth G minor prelude – which I consider one of the most patriotic works”, Papaian emphasized. – “Rachmaninoff, as I have already said in many interviews, in my opinion, is the most Russian composer. Therefore, emotions, of course, cannot help but overwhelm. The main feelings are a feeling of delight and a feeling of trepidation. I am very grateful to the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Alexei Nikolaevich Vasiliev, the rector, for the opportunity to perform before Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.”
