Sudden death of well-known coloratura

The death has been made known of Beate Ritter, a popular member of the Vienna Volksoper who moved on to the Stuttgart state opera, where she sange her last performance in April.

Beate also had engagements in Florence, Malmö, Tel Aviv, China, Switzerland, France and Italy. She is believed to have sung Queen of the Night 150 times. Some called her ‘the Austrian Nightingale’.

No cause of death has been disclosed.
