Death of a viola influencer, 73

The influential New York violist Karen Ritscher has died after a series of illnesses at the age of 73.

Starting out as principal viola at Dallas Opera and Houston Grand Opera, Karen went on to perform with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Houston Symphony and the Aureus Piano Quartet. She taught at Manhattan School of Music and was a founder of the Karen Tuttle Coordination Workshop, serving as co-author of The Karen Tuttle Legacy: A Resource and Guide for Viola Students, Teachers, and Performers.
