An Arab-American wins US music director post

The Marin Symphony has named Fawzi Haimor as its incoming music director, starting September.

Haimor, 41, was born in Chicago and raised in Saudi Arabia. His father is Jordanian-Lebanese and his mother is from the Philippines.

From 2017 to the outbreak of Covid, Haimor was music director in Germany of the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen.

He has also conducted the BBC Symphony and Chineke! orchestras in London and the New Zealand Symphony on tour.

The Marin Symphony is based in San Rafael, California. It has four msterworks concerts, two choral events and one pops concert.
