Following upon the removal of Zachary Woolfe as chief critic, the jittery paper has reassigned itsnews corespondent for classical and dance, Javier Hernández, to … Tokyo, where he will be bureau chief. Hernández served a 2015 to 2021 stint as a reporter in China.
News of his move has gone down badly with the classical industry where Hernández was liked as a straight-talking reporter who had sympathy for the sector and wrote without frills. Added to the decapitation of Woolfe and the general push for diversification, trust in the paper’s commitment to the classical arts has taken another dive.
