Artist in residence hands over at Musikverein Wien

Artist in residence hands over at Musikverein Wien

Message received:

Last weekend brought a special encounter: Víkingur Ólafsson, our Artist-in-Residence this season, met Lahav Shani, who takes on that role in the upcoming season. Together with the Wiener Symphoniker under the baton of Lahav Shani, we experienced a programme that united two giants of American music – Leonard Bernstein and John Adams

Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms showcased his spiritual and sonorous side, followed by pure musical joy with the rousing Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. The Wiener Singverein and a soloist from the Vienna Boys’ Choir added their brilliance to the performance.
A true highlight was the Austrian premiere of After the Fall, a powerful new piano concerto by John Adams, written especially for star pianist Víkingur Ólafsson.
