Basel hires Brit boss

The Basel Sinfonietta, a full-strength symphony orchestra devoted to contemporary music, has named the British violinist Fiona Stevens as its executive director.

Fiona, who’s from Southampton, is presently managing director of the baroque orchestra Concerto Köln.

 

In its 2024/25 season, under the musical direction of Titus Engel, Basel Sinfonietta is performing works by Moritz Eggert, Sofia Gubaidulina, Liza Lim, Julius Eastman, Helga Arias, and Unsuk Chin. Highlights include the world premiere of Der 7. Himmel – a football oratorio for Basel in collaboration with Theater Basel (for the Women’s World Cup finals) .
