Baton blues: Young maestro quits German post for a better offer

It was only last June that Theater Hagen chose Hermes Helfricht as its next General Music Director, starting later this year. Helfricht, 33, is presently first Kapellmeister at Theater Bonn and the Hagen offer was a vertical career move.

But he’s just told Hagen that he’s had a better offer from Erfurt, and he’d like to cancel his contract.

Sounds like he’ll go far.
