Bright new trumpet for Minnesota

The orchestra and its music director Thomas Søndergård have chosen James Vaughen as principal trumpet, succeeding Manny Laureano who is retiring after 44 years.

Vaughen, 25, is presently assistant principal trumpet at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and at Chicago’s Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra.

He has toured Europe with the London Symphony Orchestra.
