Bullying cathedral precentor is banned for life

Bullying cathedral precentor is banned for life

The Dean of Wakefield Cathedral has issued this notification to parents of choir members:

It became public this week that Dr Jayson Rhodes, who was a member of clergy here from January 2022 to July 2023, has been banned from Church of England ministry for life following a disciplinary process under the Clergy Discipline Measure.

To protect both those raising concerns and those responding to them, most details of these processes must remain confidential; however, even if we cannot always respond to them, any of the clergy team is always happy to listen to any concerns or questions about this or any aspect of our choir or cathedral life.

The issue was set in motion by our report two years ago that We reported a few weeks ago that the director of music at Wakefield Cathedral, had been bullied out of his job by the Precentor and was seeking a future in finance.

Wakefield still has some atonement to do.
