Cancer claims English Hollywood star, 38

We  regret to report the death of the Goucestersshire-born violinist and composer Ben Powell, a rising force in Los Angeles film-scoring scene. Ben died of cancer, a day after his 38th birthday.

He led Hans Zimmer’s ensemble in Top Gun Maverick and played solos on films by Alexandre Desplat, Danny Elfman and Alan Silvestri, while composing music of his own. He appeared in TV sitcoms The Mindy Project, New Girl and Two and a Half Men.

He was also training to be an airline pilot.

Ben leaves a wife and baby daughter, along with a crowd of college friends from Berklee.
