Welsh National Opera took its tremendous Peter Grimes to Birmingham last night. At the curtain call, some of the singers wore t-shirts proclaiming ‘Don’t cut the chorus’.
The message will have fallen on blind eyes and dead ears at the Arts Councils of England and Wales.
