Dutch chief, RIP

The death has been made known of Frans de Ruiter, founder of the Utrecht Early Music Festival and director of the Holland Festival (1977-1985).

A harpsichordist by training, he went on to lead the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague until 2006. He was President of the European Festival Association and chair of the  UNESCO International Music Council in Paris.

Frans was 79.
